My deepest darkest fantasy is that I collapse on the street and I am rushed to the hospital. They perform a bunch of tests and find out I am severely deficient in some kind of vitamin. Then I start taking the vitamin and I become the happiest cleverest person alive because all my problems were caused by this one deficiency

kind of interested in how the numbers fall for this one. sorry for not adding a show results option but that would skew the numbers far too much, check back in 24 hours if you want to see the answers.

if you listened to the magnus protocol draft first episode, did you hear the high pitched noise?

    no

yes but it didn't really bother me / I only heard it for a short while

    yes and it was awful

    See Results

maybe tag or comment your answer along with your age or how noise sensitive you usually are or if you're around a lot of loud music or anything else potentially relevant

I've never watched Scott Pilgrim but I'm reading about this animated Netflix series and apparently one of the reasons they were able to get the whole cast of the 2010 movie to reprise their roles is bc Michael Cera fucking responded to a 9 year old cast email thread out of nowhere as if no time had passed and got the cast all chatting with each other again

Jonelias week day 5: soulmate au

No one ever told life was gonna be this way (ie that your soulmate would be the master manipulator that used you to end the world and that you and your new boyfriend are on a quest to kill)

[ID: a black and white comic featuring jon and martin from the magnus archives. Jon is a thin short Indian man with short black hair and glasses. He has a goatee and scars on his face and hands and is wearing a jacket. Martin is a taller white fat man with glasses and long hair pulled back in a ponytail and is also wearing a jacket with a backpack. In the first panel martin is asking jon “do you know which way to go?” Jon is looking down at his hand which has a red string tied around the middle finger. The middle panel is a close up of jons hand, covered in burn scars with a red string tied around the middle finger Jon replies “Yes.”. In the final panel jon and martin are both looking up at the giant eye in the sky, below which is a dark forest. The red string on jons hand is twisting forward over the line of trees into the distance. Jon says “I could find him anywhere.”]

this is advice I've given friends directly before and I've probably also posted it but I really like giving it so here it is potentially again: do not create something for an imaginary bad faith reader.

there will always be someone who finds fault in your work. there will be people who read the messages on it wrong. there will be people who will take every compelling aspect about your work off of it so they can put in their own.

you cannot make art for these people.

you will never write a story that is free from criticism. you will never draw a piece that everyone finds appealing. you will never compose a song that everyone enjoys hearing. you cannot, fundamentally, set out to create something and only think of how you can avoid someone not liking it.

because, and this is key, there will be someone who sees every angle of your story and feels its intent in their heart and gushes to their friends about it. you will draw someone's favorite art and they will make it their phone wallpaper because they want to see it every day. someone will fall in love with your song and loop it on their way to work because it gets them through the day. and THOSE are the people your work is for. THOSE are the people you have to care about, because they love what you make for what it is - because it's itself.

if you set out to create something and file off every sharp edge, prune every thorn, you will be left with something fragile and weak, and it will be fragile and weak for the sake of someone who does not exist but that you were scared of anyway.

sharing art is complex and tangled and powerful, and anything you care enough to create deserves to flourish as itself. get sillay.

eugh blugh anyway anyway. elias like talks to jon completely differently than he talks to anyone else. if jon is the room he is talking exclusively to jon regardless of how many other people are in the room. if jon is not in the room but there’s a tape recorder running he’s talking to jon. if he thinks jon might have this conversation relayed to him at a later date he’s talking to jon. mag 92 is hysterical because why did you pack this office with as many people as possible for this conversation and then audibly not break eye contact with one specific guy for twenty minutes. well this is because jon is the only person that actually exists to him in this situation. or most situations. elias knows he’s in a podcast but as far as he’s concerned he and jon are the only characters in it and everyone else is set dressing and he gets so cranky about it when the set dressing starts expressing free will. jon is aware that other people exist 95% of the time unless he is actively talking to and/or yelling at elias and then he kind of forgor. mag 102 when elias is like melanie is coming to murder me with a knife for like .25 seconds jon is like the fuck is melanie and then returns to reality and remembers he has a life outside of “weird thing with elias” and is kind of embarrassed. like uh whoops sorry got kind of intense there for a second (elias continues to be kind of intense unabated) (forever)
